England Golf South East Group 6 man Junior team qualifying
Suffolk boys competed in the England Golf South East Group Team Qualifier at Woodbridge Golf Club on 13th July and finished sixth of the eleven competing counties. To finish ahead of much larger counties such as Kent and Hampshire and just one shot behind Surrey was a very creditable performance by the boys. The competition is a 36 hole medal competition with five of the six scores to count in each round.
Max Adams had to drop out of the team after suffering a wrist injury in the practice round the previous day and was replaced by Woodbridge member Tom Auchterlonie.
After a morning with the best score being four over par by three of the team, the boys improved their scores in the afternoon. George Fricker put in the best performance of the day with a 3 under par 67 in the second round, to add to his 75 in the morning. Alfie Halil was one over in the afternoon following a 75 in the morning while Louis Martin and Tom Auchterlonie both had morning and afternoon scores of 74. The other scores to count were Habebul Islam's 74 and 75. Liam Hansey didn't have the best of days, but improved his score by 5 shots in the afternoon. Three of the team are in the Under 16 age group and all six team members will be eligible to play in the event next year, which will be held in Hampshire.
B,B&O won the event and go on to represent the SE Group in the national final. The winner of the individual prize was Arron Edwards - Hill of Essex with scores of 69 and 67.
