THE PARKS TROPHY

  1. The Park’s Trophy will be an inter-club fourball better ball handicap competition held annually and open to all clubs affiliated to the Suffolk Golf Union.   R&A Rules of Golf will apply.    Play shall be from the white tees

  1. Players must be amateurs as previously defined and a minimum of 55 years of age on the day of the competition.   In each team a minimum of two players must be aged 65 years of age or over on the day of the competition

3.      A match will consist of 4 pairs playing over 18 holes (starting at the first).   The aggregate of holes, up and down, will be used to decide the winning team (ie: Hambro scoring).

  1. Handicaps will be  no higher than 12 and ¾ of the difference between players will be applied.   Players over 12 handicap may participate but must play off a maximum of 12.   Players must have an active handicap as at the date of the match. Please Note- Team captains must include team members CDH numbers on the result sheet before forwarding it to the County Secretary.

  1. In the event of a tie, captains will nominate two players from their team to play sudden death from the 1sth tee unless different holes for the play-off have been agreed between the team Captains before beginning the match.

6.      A member of a club is eligible to represent his club in any match in the competition provided he has not previously represented another club in the same competition during the same year.

  1. The name of the club drawn first will be deemed the course on which the match shall be played, unless altered by mutual agreement. A new draw will be made after each round. The semi-final will be played on a neutral course. The final will be played on the course of the previous years winner unless that club is in the final or the Match Play Committee decide otherwise.

  1. All rounds should ideally be played on a weekday, unless mutually agreed. Matches must be completed by the final date advised for each round. The home club must contact their opponents within 7 days of the draw and offer a minimum of 3 dates which should not all be in the same week.

  1. A player who has represented his club in the Beaumont Trophy may be promoted to the Parks Trophy, however, no player who has represented his club in the Parks Trophy may subsequently play in the Beaumont Trophy in the same year.

  1. The host club will provide a 30 minute reservation from the 1st tee, not earlier than for a 10am start, unless mutually agreed, and a two course lunch or high tea appropriate to the starting time agreed for the match.

  1. Once a date has been agreed, it can only be changed by mutual agreement of both captains.   If the change is unilateral, that club will forfeit the match.

  1. The Captain of the winning club must notify the Match play Secretary, and any other nominated person of the match result as instructed. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

  1. Any match started and ultimately abandoned for any reason shall be replayed. However, this shall not apply in the event that a result has already been achieved, i.e. one team is more holes up than remain to be played.

  1. In the event of there being a dispute over the rules which cannot be resolved by the captains of the two sides, a member of the Committee shall adjudicate and his decision shall be final. The committee shall be an officer or member of the county Executive Committee or any person nominated by Suffolk Golf Union to take decisions in respect of the competition on its behalf. Such decision or decisions shall be final.

  1. The nominated course for matches must be of such a nature and condition that it provides a fair test of skill in a match play situation.   The Committee may insist on a club drawn at home playing the match away if any of the conditions of the competition are not met.

  1. Team captains are not permitted to give advice. Advice may only be given by partners or caddies as per the Rules of Golf.

  1. On the day of the match, practice on any part of the course, other than in areas officially designated by the home club as practice areas is forbidden. Visiting clubs are responsible for ascertaining which areas are designated as practice areas.

18.     Entry into the competition will be subject to the acceptance of and compliance with the General Regulations of the Union and as applicable to the Parks Trophy.

All clubs entering the competitions must be prepared for their courses to be used as a neutral venue for the semi-finals and final.
