Alfie Halil is Suffolk Junior Matchplay Champion
Alfie Halil is the new Suffolk Junior Matchplay champion, winning the trophy at Felixstowe Ferry. The event was reduced to four players instead of sixteen due to the low number of entries in the Junior Championship.
In the semi finals Halil had a titanic battle with Max Adams, winning on the 18th green when Adams missed a three foot birdie putt to take the match to extra holes. Both players were well under par for the round. In the other semi final, George Fricker overcame the plucky 13 year old Tyler Weaver by 4 and 3.
Halil played some exceptionally good golf against Fricker in the final, regularly finding the middle of the fairway from the tee and rarely missing the green in regulation. Fricker found himself in too many bunkers and didn't win a hole until the 11th when Halil had one of only three bogeys. He birdied all four par fives and was two under par when he sealed victory by 3 and 2 on the 16th green.
