Anglian League Boys Final

Suffolk Boys fell to a heavy 9 - 3 defeat by Northamptonshire in the final of the Junior Anglian League at Heacham Manor Golf Club in Norfolk. They were up against a strong team with lower handicaps, and were clearly second best on the day.

After the morning foursomes Suffolk left themselves with a mountain to climb, with Oli Page and George Fricker scoring half a point to the three and a half points gained by Northamptonshire.

In the top singles match Suffolk Open Champion Alfie Halil took on England international Ben Jones and halved the match. Had it not been for Jones holing a 20 foot putt for a birdie on the final hole Halil would have taken a notable scalp. On the day of the match Jones learned that he had been selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the Jacques Leglise Trophy against Europe. Only Jude Everett, in his final county match as a junior, and Fricker won their matches. Liam Hansey and Tom Auchterlonie took their matches to the final green, but both lost by just one hole.

It was Northamptonshire's third successive victory in this competition, which Suffolk Boys have won on many occasions in the past 40 years.
