Anglian League Junior Qualifier
Suffolk Boys had an emphatic victory over Norfolk and Cambridgeshire Boys in the Eastern Qualifier of the Junior Anglian League at St Neots Golf Club on 1st August. They now meet Northamptonshire in the final at Heacham Manor Golf Club (Norfolk) on 21st August. Scores - Suffolk 18 1/2 points, Cambridgeshire 11 points, Norfolk 6 1/2 points.
All the Suffolk boys contributed points on the day having got off to a great start in the foursomes matches, winning all four against Norfolk and 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 against Cambridgeshire.
In the first two singles matches Louis Martin and Liam Hansey found Ollie Rust (Cambridgeshire) and Jack Cullington (Norfolk) in very good form but achieved a half an a win respectively against the other players in their three ball match.
Suffolk then came into their own with Alfie Halil, George Fricker, Oli Page, Jude Everett and Tim Auchterlonie all winning both their matches to give their team an unassailable lead. The fixture came to a fitting conclusion when Guy Maynard chipped in for a birdie at the 18th to secure a half with Norfolk's Liam Cossey, which was greeted by loud applause from his team mates.
It was an excellent performance with which Team Manager, Patrick Spraggs, will be heartened after disappointing results in the England Golf South East Group Under 18 League, and which he will be able to build on for the remainder of the year and into 2018.
