Biggs retains Suffolk Amateur Championship
The Suffolk Amateur Championship was played at Rookery Park Golf Club on Sunday 10th June. 61 players took part.
Sam Debenham (Hintlesham) carded a morning round of 68- 4 under par to lead County Captain ,Jack Cardy, (also Hintlesham) by 3 shots with James Biggs (Diss),Paul Waring (Felixstowe Ferry) and Simon Bearman (Newton Green) all a further shot behind after carding 72's.
Debenham added a round of 75 in the afternoon for a total of 143- 1 under par which was matched by Biggs who shot 71. Jed Seeley (Newton Green) shot a 3 under par round of 69 which got him to within 1 shot of the leaders whilst Habebul Islam (Ipswich) who shot 73 in his morning round left the 16th green at 2 under par in the afternoon only to take a 4 over par 8 on the 17th which ended his challenge.Waring also had a putt for an eagle on the par 5 18th which would have got him into a play off, however he had to settle for 4th place 1 shot ahead of home player Luke Thompson who carded 75 and 71 for 146 and Chris Fleming (Ipswich) who had 2 rounds of 73.
The Championship was decided by way of sudden death playoff over holes 17 and 18. Debenham was wayward off the 17th but recovered to make a par, however, Biggs birdie putt lipped out with the match progressing to the par 5 18th where it was decided when Debenham was unable to match Biggs birdie 4.

The Ipswich trio of Chris Fleming, Habibul Islam and Sam Byford took the Team Shield. They will be Suffolk's representatives at the English Champion Club Tournament which is to be played at Huddersfield Golf Club on the 22 & 23 September.
Other prizes went to Charlie Taylor (Diss) all day handicap with a nett 145 from Jack Butcher (Gorleston) on 147.Jack Cardy won the morning gross with 71 and Luke Thompson the afternoon gross also with 71.
Jonas Brunssen, a 10 handicapper from Flempton,had an interesting day shooting 95 nett 85 in his morning round which he improved by 20 shots in the afternoon carding a gross 75 nett 65.
