Bury St Edmunds win the Stenson Shield
The final of the Stenson Shield, between Hintlesham and Bury St Edmunds, was played at Aldeburgh Golf Club on Saturday 15th September.
The morning Foursomes saw Bury St Edmunds establish a 3.5 to 0.5 lead thanks to wins from Max Adams and Ben Coleman, Craig Nurse and Dan Smailes and Michael Gee and Andy Cunningham. Jordan Nelli and Steve Duffety halving their game.
Hintlesham needed their top order players to register wins in the singles, however, it did not happen with Bury St Edmunds increasing their lead with wins in the opening two games from Adams and Gee.Wins for Hintlesham from Meredith, Jones and Hellyer merely delayed the inevitable win for Bury St Edmunds who ran out winners by 8 games to 4 taking the Stenson Shield for the first time since it was established in 1985.
Results- Am Foursomes- Max Adams and Ben Coleman beat Ben Stammers and Keith Tarrant 3 & 2, Craig Nurse and Dan Smailes beat Adrian Meredith and Jamie Jones 2 up, Jordan Nelli and Steve Duffety halved with Jack Cardy and Trevor Hellyer, Michael Gee and Andy Cunningham beat Kevin Brooks and John Booth 5 & 4.
