Cambridgeshire v Suffolk Under 12's

Cambridgeshire Under 12's entertained Suffolk under 12s at Gog Magog golf club on Sunday 30th October 2016.

With a foggy start to the day the juniors from Cambridgeshire and Suffolk turned up in good time, a little bit nervous but in good spirits. The fog lifted slowly as the day progressed, however the course was in excellent condition and the event superbly organised by by Mark Howell and Dave Gamble.

After an introduction from Mark who informed the young golfers the rules for the match the boys went to the first tee with some nerves and apprehension, however, all were proud to be playing for their county.

Harry Brinded partnered by Nathan Willett, playing in his first County match after being selected in the trials only a few week ago began proceedings. Both hitting good drives as did their Cambridgeshire opponents.Paul Collington and Jake Pankhurst. They were followed by Henry Meadows and Freddie Coe,Freddie also playing in his first County match.Josh Izod and Theo Morris were representing Cambridgeshire. The third match saw Fraser Johnson and Enzo Johnson against Harry McDonnell and Kai Raymond.In the final match Charlie Goodridge and Josh Hembling were against Harry Howell and Kai Raymond. Despite obvious nerves all the boys managed to get away safely.

The standard of play throughout the morning was excellent and there was very little between the teams although Suffolk did manage to secure a 3-1 lead.

The afternoon saw the boys play singles matches starting at the 10th tee.The County officials made sure the boys kept up a good pace to ensure the matches finished as light was fading fast.

The singles were again well contested with Cambridgeshire edging them by 4.5 to 3.5, however this left Suffolk the winners overall by 6.5 to 5.5

Suffolk fielded an inexperienced team who did the County and their parents proud for such young players. At times their confidence dropped, however they were able to quickly recover with encouragement from their fellow team members.The match was played in excellent spirit with the youngsters showing respect to their own team and opponents.
