The annual Dell Bower Invitational tournament was held at Hintlesham Golf Club on Tuesday 22nd July. Dell Bower, President of Suffolk PGA has sponsored this event for many years and originally it was for PGA trainees, however in latter years up and coming promising amateurs from the county have been invited with the number of PGA trainees in the region markedly decreasing.
The morning round saw Jack Cardy (Ipswich) shoot 69 which was matched by Sam Byford, a 16 year old also from Ipswich Golf Club, whose round included a hole in one at the par 3 13th. Chris Bartrum (Diss), Jack Phillips (Fynn Valley) Lewis Whiting (Haverhill) and Jed Seeley (Newton Green) all carded 72's.
Byford maintained his form in the afternoon to take the Tony Garnett Cup, adding a 70 for a total of 139, one shot better than Cardy who shot a 71 for a 140 total. Bartrum was third on 142 followed by Phillips on 143. Gregor Tait shot 69 in the afternoon, eleven shots better than the 80 recorded in the morning round.

The trainees competition and Dell Bower Trophy was won by Phil Westley of Hintlesham with a total of 142- 74-68, followed by Bradley Wilkins (Fynn Valley) 143, Ed Garrard (Rookery Park) 151, James Markham (Aldeburgh) 152 and Daniel Skriabin (Ufford Park) 159
