Dell Bower Invitational and Trainees Championship

The annual Dell Bower Invitational and Trainees Championship were held at Hintlesham Golf Club on Wednesday 10th August.

6 players took part in the Trainees Championship which was won, after a sudden death playoff, by Robert Salter from Woodbridge.Robert and Alex Davey both scored 144. Salter shot 72-72 with Davey forcing a play off with an afternoon round of 70 to add to his morning 74. However,Salter took the title at the first play off hole with a birdie 3.

16 amateur category 1 golfers took part in the Dell Bower Invitational competition.The morning round saw Calvin Sherwood, Rookery Park, establish a 5 stroke advantage after recording a superb 6 under par 66. Monty Scowsill, Woodbridge, with a 71 and Jack Phillips, Ipswich, and James Biggs, Diss both with 72's were his nearest challengers.

Scoring in the afternoon improved considerably with 6 players shooting par or better. Monty Scowsill and Jack Forgan both carding 69's. Sherwood initially thought he had shot a 72, however, a score was recorded on his card higher than taken increasing his score to 73 but never-the less- leaving him the winner by 1 stroke over Monty Scowsill.Forgan finished 3rd. The handicap prize went to 4 handicapper Daniel Jennings, Rushmere, with 76-74 for 150 and a nett 142, 1 better than James Biggs on 143.

Invited guests enjoyed a superb luncheon hosted by Suffolk PGA President, Dell Bower, and the day was rounded off with a superb trick shot show by resident professional, Kevin Carpenter.
