Driver is Suffolk Junior Match play Champion
The Suffolk Junior Matchplay Championship was played at Diss Golf Club on the 28/29th August. Sixteen players had qualified from the Suffolk Junior Championship.
The only real surprises in round one were the defeat of former winner Jasper Johnson (Woodbridge) at the first extra hole by Sam Byford (Ipswich) and Joshua Murton (Felixstowe Ferry) again at the first extra hole by 13 year old Habebul Islam (Ipswich)
Round 2 saw Suffolk Junior Stroke play Champion Gregor Tait defeat Jack Forgan 2 up, Sam Byford beat Harry Fricker (Ufford Park) 1 up, Jordan Bloomfield |(Rushmere) overcome Habebul Islam 2 up and home member Josh Driver beat Lewis Whiting (Haverhill) 4 & 3.
The semi finals saw Tait come back from 3 down to eventually beat Byford 2 & 1 whilst Driver beat Bloomfield 5 & 3.
The final was extremely close with only one hole in it until Driver went 2 up at the short 15th. At the 16th Tait holed from 20+ feet for a birdie 3 and seemed likely that he would reduce his arrears, however Driver matched his 3 by holing from around 20 feet. The match was finally decided on the 17th leaving 16 year old Driver, who was never behind in the match, the winner and Suffolk Match play Champion for 2014 by 3 & 1.
