England Golf SEG Junior Under 18 League
Suffolk Boys were unable to defend the South East Under 18 League title they won last year, when they failed to beat Norfolk at Bungay. Although they defeated Bedfordshire by 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 they lost to Norfolk by the same score and with Norfolk beating Bedfordshire by 6 to 2 it gave the Northern Divison title to Norfolk with one match still to play. League points: - Norfolk 8 Suffolk 2 Bedfordshire 2.
The matches did, however, have some bright moments for the Suffolk boys. Harry Fricker enhanced his growing reputation by winning both his matches, including the defeat of Norfolk's England Junior international, Toby Briggs, by one hole after a birdie on the 18th hole. Suffolk captain Josh Driver also scored maximum points, including an emphatic 8 and 7 victory over Norfolk's James Collins. Sam Byford eagled the par four 9th hole when he holed out with his approach shot from 120 yards, a feat that was matched 30 minutes later from almost the same spot by Joel Gosling of Bedfordshire.
