England Golf South East Group Junior Foursomes Championship
Suffolk Boys finished a very creditable 3rd out of 8 counties in the England Golf South East Group Junior Foursomes at Crondon Park, Essex. Sussex won the event, Norfolk finished 4th and Essex 7th.
To use a football cliché, it was ‘a game of two halves’ for the Suffolk team. After the first round the three Suffolk pairs were collectively 28 over par, but in the second round they improved dramatically by dropping just 7 shots to finish 35 over.
Gregor Tait and Jack Phillips were 7 over after the first round which include a 9 on their final par 5 hole. Jed Seeley and Connor Talbot also had a 9 on their card in their 16 over par round. Josh Driver and Lewis Whiting returned a morning score of 5 over.
Driver and Whiting started their second round with four straight birdies. They finished one over, despite Whiting being stung by a wasp on his hand midway through the round. Seeley and Talbot turned their fortunes round by completing their second round just 4 over par, an improvement of 12 shots. Tait and Phillips played very steadily throughout the afternoon to finish 2 over.
Scores: Driver and Whiting 150 (77 – 73), Tait and Phillips 153 (79 – 74) Seeley and Talbot 164 (88 – 76).
