England Golf South East Group Junior Foursomes
Suffolk Boys finished in fourth place of the seven competing counties in the England Golf South East Group Junior Foursomes at Royal Norwich Golf Club. Four pairs represent each county over 36 holes of medal play, with three of the scores in each of the morning and afternoon rounds to count for the county score.
The event was played in atrocious weather with rain for almost the whole day, very heavy at times. At one stage it was necessary to sweep water from two of the greens to enable play to continue.
George Fricker and Tom Auchterlonie had the best score for Suffolk with five over par (73 - 72 - 145) which was beaten by only three other pairs. Max Weaver and Jack Butcher were unfortunate on one hole where their ball was found just a few seconds after a referee had informed them that their five minutes allocated for searching had expired. They still managed to return a creditable score of nine over par (75 - 74 - 149). All four pairs bettered their morning scores in the afternoon round.
The tournament was won by Surrey who were captained by Killian McGinley, son of former Ryder Cup player, Paul. Essex finished a very close second and Norfolk, with five players from the host club, were third. Kent, Sussex and Hampshire took the remaining places.
