England Golf South East Under 18 League
Suffolk Boys made a disappointing start to their defence of the England Golf South East Group Under 18 League title by losing to both Bedfordshire and Norfolk by 5 matches to 3 in the Northern Division at Richmond Park Golf Club in Watton, Norfolk. Norfolk beat Bedfordshire by 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 to lead the division after the first round of matches.
Suffolk was without Josh Driver and Habebul Islam who were competing in the Welsh Open Youths Championship.
Sam Byford, Tom Fowler and Harry Fricker won all their matches, but were the only successes for Suffolk. Lewis Whiting and Will Morcombe both took an early lead against their opponents but they were both pegged back by a series of birdies. Byford provided a highlight for Suffolk by claiming the notable scalp of Norfolk's England under 18 international, Toby Briggs, with a resounding 4 and 2 victory.
The second fixture between the three counties will take place at Bungay and Waveney Golf Club on 26th June.
