Ipswich Golf Club hosted the annual Skevington Trophy competition which is competed for by Under 16 boys representing Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire and Essex. Format is 9 holes in the morning and 18 in the afternoon. The Skevington Trophy is awarded to the boy achieving the lowest gross score over the 27 holes. In addition the Counties are competing for the Bob Bagshaw Cup which is awarded to the team which achieves the lowest score taking 3 gross and 3 nett scores.
Suffolk's record is none too impressive in this event, however, this year Harry Fricker, Ufford Park, played superb golf to win both the Skevington Trophy and the Handicap prize. He recorded a 9 hole score of 36 and added an afternoon 2 under par round of 69 for a total of 105 ( Nett 100.5) which secured him the title by 1 shot from Aaron Edwards-Hill, Essex who followed his morning round of 38 with a 3 under par round of 68 in the afternoon for a total of 106.
In the team competition Essex looked odds on to take the trophy until Suffolk's final player, Liam Hansey of Bungay & Waveney Valley returned an afternoon round of 76 to see Suffolk victorious, for the first time, by the slim margin of 655 to 655.5.
