Gregor Tait is Suffolk Amateur Champion

Gregor Tait who plays at Ipswich and Aldeburgh, is the new Suffolk Amateur Champion.He won the Todd Cup round a testing Aldeburgh course by a single shot from Chris Bartrum of Diss and will now represent Suffolk in the County Champions Tournament at Woodhall Spa on the 10/11th September. 

Tait, a plus 3 handicapper, set up his success with an opening round of 69 giving him a 2 shot lead at lunch over Guy Mummery, Rookery Park, who shot 71 and 3 ahead of Paul Waring, Felixstowe Ferry who carded a 72.

Tait carded an afternoon round of 75 for a total of 144. Bartrum, who shot 74 in the morning carded a 71 in the afternoon leaving him on 145 and one shot behind Tait. He took the John Doe Salver. Josh Driver, Diss,carded a 70, the best round of the afternoon, to add to his morning 76 which placed him in third place on count back from Mark Rea of Flempton who shot 73-73. 

The best all day nett was from Danny Perring of Gorleston with 145 followed by Danny Western, also Gorleston on 146 and Jason Finbra, Halesworth with 148.

Am gross went to Guy Mummery with 71 whilst former County Captain, Nathan Overton, took the Pm gross with 73.

The Suffolk scratch Team Shield was won by the Gorleston trio of Danny Western-148, Danny Perring-149 and Chris Duffy- 153 with a total of 450, 4 shots better than Rookery Park's Guy Mummery-149, Calvin Sherwood-149 and Luke Thompson- 156. Gorleston will now have the opportunity of representing Suffolk at the English Champion Club Tournament to be held at Stoke By Nayland Golf Club over the weekend of the 17/18th September.

The draw for the Match Play will take place once Jack Cardy, the Suffolk County Captain, has selected his team to play in the England Golf South East Group County Team qualifier which unfortunately falls on the same day as the 1st day of the Match play competition.
