Haverhill win the Junior Team Championship
Haverhill won the Suffolk Junior Club Championship by defeating Diss at Newton Green on Sunday 3rd June by 101 points to 89. Neither club had won the competition before and Haverhill had ended the winning streak of Newton Green in the second round, the club having won the competition for the past three years.
All three members of the Haverhill team played consistently well, all scoring more than 30 points and were the deserved winners. They will now represent the county at the national final at Frilford Heath Golf Club in August.
Harrison Groucott of Diss was the highest points scorer with 39, but unfortunately his team mate, Charlie Stammers, was unwell on the course and did very well to keep going and complete his round. Alex Lawrie was drafted into the Diss team at very short notice to play in his first ever competitive match, having only recently acquired a CONGU handicap of 28 and had to play off 24 under the rules of the competition.
The match was played in glorious sunshine and the course was in excellent condition. All the players conducted themselves in an exemplary manner, in the true traditions of golf.
