Jack Cardy is Suffolk Amateur Champion

The Suffolk Amateur Championship was played at Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club on Sunday 8th June 2014. It attracted a full field of 66 golfers with a handicap of 6 or better.The course was in excellent condition and it is understood that Andrew Collison, Director of Golf and club Professional, personally raked the bunkers before play commmenced.Thanks were given to him and all his staff by the County President Ron Kent.

 The morning round saw Jack Cardy, handicap plus 2  (Ipswich) post a 3 under par score of 66 which was equaled by Josh Driver, a 3 handicapper from Diss. They were closely followed by Alex Taylor (Southwold) with 68 and Paul Waring (Felixstowe Ferry) with 69. Jack Forgan (Stowmarket) and Russell Oakey (Newton Green) both has 70's.

The wind picked up in the afternoon making scoring slightly more difficult, however, Cardy added a 73 to finish on 139- one over par which was never seriously challenged. Driver fell away with a 79.Alistair Hall (Halesworth) carded an afternoon 69 to go with his morning score of 72 , his total of 141 moving him into second place for which he received the John Doe Salver. Hall pipped Taylor who also, finished on 141 on countback, Taylor carding an afternoon 73.Will Wright (Aldeburgh) took 4th place on 142 with rounds of 73 and 69. Trevor Hellyer (Hintlesham) also recorded a fine afternoon 69 to leave him on 147 and in 14th place.

Simon Bearman. 5 handicap, took the handicap prize with 139 nett on countback from Ben Coleman and Jack Forgan.
