England Golf Boys qualifier at Kings Hill Golf Course

Suffolk Boys have competed in the England Golf South Eastern Group Team Championship at Kings Hill Golf Club in Kent. Eleven counties took part and the winning county will represent the region in the national final. The course was in excellent condition and good scoring was possible if players did not stray too far from the fairway, where they found the rough knee deep in places.

Teams comprise six boys who play a 36 hole medal competition with the best five scores in each round to count for the team score. Unfortunately for Suffolk, Dominic Rudd suffered an injury to his right arm during the course of the first round. He managed to complete the round but was unable to play the second round. 

Considering this disadvantage, the boys did well to finish in 7th place with a combined score of 743. Essex won by the tightest of margins, having tied on 714 with BB&O the winner was decided by the best score of the sixth player in the second round. 

Team scores: Essex 714, BB&O 714, Hertfordshire 719, Kent 723, Hampshire 727, Surrey 733, Suffolk 743, Sussex 749, Bedfordshire 754, Norfolk 756, Middlesex 778.

The best score by a Suffolk boy was returned by Tyler Weaver with three under par 141 (70, 71) to finish in 10th place individually. He was disappointed to finish with a double bogey on his final hole after his drive found some of the punishing rough. Other scores were Sid Neenan and Teddy Hall 147 (73, 74), Reuben Harvey 152 (79, 73), Harry Brinded 156 (76, 79) and Dominic Rudd (84, retired).

Best individual score was recorded by George Durkin (Hertfordshire) with a very impressive 10 under par 134 (67, 67). A highlight of the day was a hole in one by Rory Bennet (Essex) on the 6th hole of his second round. Harry Brinded was one of his playing partners.
