Joe Drury wins Eastern Counties Cup

Woodbridge Golf Club was the venue for the annual Eastern Counties Cup, an event in the Suffolk Handicap Order of Merit, on Saturday 16th July. 60 players took part.

The Eastern Counties Cup goes to the player with the lowest nett score. After the morning round Bill Preedy, 8 handicap, from Burnham-on-Crouch led the way with a 68 followed by 5 players on 69.However, Preedy could only add a 78 in the afternoon to finish on 146. Sid Neenan (Aldeburgh) and Trevor Hellyer (Hintlesham) who had morning 69's added 74 and 76 respectively to finish tied 1st and 4th respectively.with  Darren Wells,5 handicap, (Frinton) and Joe Drury, 7 handicap, from the home club who both shot 72-71 for 143, Drury taking the title on Count back.

The lowest gross score in the morning was returned by Tom Owen plus 1 (Rochford Hundred) with a level par 70 from Neenan and Chris Bartrum,plus 1 (Diss) both on 71.Patrick Spraggs (Aldeburgh) returned a superb 4 under par 66 in the afternoon for a 1 under par total of 139 which saw him finish 8 shots clear of Neenan and Nick Tedder-Ward, plus 1 (Frinton)
