The 1st competition counting towards the new Suffolk Order of Merit,(The Race to Aldeburgh) The Rushmere Vase was held at Rushmere Golf Club on Sunday 8th April. It attracted an entry from 36 players.
The lowest gross score was recorded by Sam Byford, Ipswich, who had rounds of 74 and 66 for a level par total of 140. Russell Oakey with 72-70 for 142 was 2nd followed by Jack Cardy 75-68 with 143.
The best nett score and winner of the Rushmere Vase was Nigel Fosker, Felixstowe Ferry with 75-72 for a gross score of 147 (7th best gross) and playing off a 5 handicap, a nett score of 70-67 for 137. Thomas Huggins, Aldeburgh, 7 handicap was runner up with 78-75- 153 nett 139 with Harry Hodgson, Woodbridge, handicap 5 handicap, 3rd 73-76-149 nett 139.
