Sam Debenham wins Suffolk Open Championship
Sam Debenham, 39 year old former Suffolk County player from Hintlesham Golf Club, is the new Suffolk Open Champion, winning the Faraday Cup in impressive style at Woodbridge Golf Club.Debenham also took the Chris Easterbrook Trophy awarded to the leading amateur.
Debenham was 4 over par after his opening eight holes but recovered to card a level par round of 70. This left him 3 shots behind the halfway leader, Nathan Overton, Woodbridge, who returned a 3 under par 67 and Jack Forgan,Stowmarket who carded a 69.
In the afternoon round Debenham reached the 18th hole standing 2 under par. He finished the round at 4 under after holing his second shot with a wedge from 118 yards.
Overton finished runner up 3 shots behind on 136 followed by three players on 140- Luke Thompson, Rookery Park,Ipswich Driving Range professional, Neil Mitchell and Jack Phillips, Ipswich.
Simon Bearman, Newton Green, achieved a hole in one during his morning round at the 198 yard ninth hole using a three iron.
