Silver Barrel

The Silver Barrel, a Suffolk Order of Merit event, was held at Ipswich Golf Club on Sunday 13th July, attracting a field of 62 players. Unfortunately the competition had to be reduced to one round due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Jack Cardy, the Suffolk Amateur Champion, set a new course record of 63. Starting at the 10th he had seven birdies in his first 9 holes and two pars for a total of 29.He dropped shots at the first and fourth but then added three more birdies to be eight under par for the round.

The Silver Barrel was won by five handicap Ipswich member Simon Godbold who shot 69 for a nett 64, one better than Cardy with 2 handicap Gregor Tait, also Ipswich,  third on 68 nett 66.
