Suffolk Boys in final of England Golf South East Under 18 League
Suffolk Boys scored resounding victories over Bedfordshire by 61/2 to 11/2 and Norfolk by 71/2 to 1/2 in the final league matches of the England Golf South East Group Northern Section at Colmworth and North Bedfordshire Golf Club which enabled them to win the section. The final standings were Suffolk 8pts, Bedfordshire 7pts and Norfolk 3 pts. It was by far their best performance of the season after a faltering start in the league having lost to both counties at Thetford and narrowly overcoming both at Bury St Edmunds.
Jed Seeley continued his excellent form with a 7 and 5 victory over Giles Evans of Norfolk and a 2 and 1 victory over Jack Hawksby, who had represented Bedfordshire men in the South East Group team championship the previous day. Gregor Tait beat Bedfordshire's Tom Mead who had also represented their men's team. William Farley of Norfolk retired with an injured wrist, but he was losing to Tait at the time. Will Morcombe, Connor Talbot and Lewis Whiting all picked up maximum points while Sam Byford and Jack Phillips both halved one of their matches. Phillips was three down against Ryan Smith of Bedfordshire with three to play but birdies at the last three holes earned him his half point. Ben Aves was making his first appearance for the county and was unfortunate to come up against Jamie Gibbons of Bedfordshire in excellent form, but Aves scored a point for his team with a convincing win over Taylor Davis of Norfolk. He will have benefited from the experience.
Suffolk now meet the winners of the Central and Southern sections in the league final at The Dyke Golf Club in Brighton on 30th August.
