Suffolk County Team v Professionals
It proved to be a valuable workout for Jack Cardy’s Suffolk county team against professional opposition that included tournament players like Jamie Abbott, Sam Forgan and Alex Holmes.
The match at Rushmere was played as a foursomes with Hambro scoring so the players would complete 18 holes.
The county team won by one hole although they lost three, halved one and won only one of the matches.
The outcome was turned by the fifth match when Suffolk might have discovered a winning partnership between Gregor Tait and James Biggs who ended 12 up on the day. They played well and, once ahead, never relaxed their grip.
In the top match Abbott and Chris Smith, a former Fynn Valley amateur pairing, beat Chris Bartrum and Josh Driver by six.
Sam Forgan and Joe Cardy won the next match for the professionals by two holes against James Tyler and Sam Byford. It was level after 11.
Keith Preston and Lawrence Dodd have always won in this annual fixture. They maintained their success run with a three hole victory over Jack Cardy and Paul Waring.
It was all square in the fourth game as professionals Patrick Spraggs and Alex Holmes fought back from being four down against Josh Cottrell and Jasper Johnson. It was in the final game that Tait and Biggs beat Will Farley and Peter Latimer.
