Suffolk Golf Union AGM

The AGM of The Suffolk Golf Union was held at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club on Friday 31st March. 25 clubs were represented .

The President's Golf Competition preceded the meeting with the winners, on countback, with 43 points being Will Wright and Jordan Dymond from Jack and Joe Cardy and Malcolm Crissell and Gary Seaman.

The Order of Merit for 2016 was won by Nathan Overton with Nathan, jointly with Ali Hall, taking the Anglian League Order of Merit. The Junior Order of Merit went to Sam Byford.

The Winstanley Trophy went to Fynn Valley Golf Club who have recently been recipients of the England Golf award for the "most welcoming Golf Club" Tony Tyrrell accepted the award stating that he was both surprised and honoured to accept it. He is pictured rightl accepting it from Phil Platten, County President.

Phil Platten stood down after two superb years as President to be succeeded by Colin Firmin with Bill Darling taking over as President elect. Colin took the opportunity to thank Phil for his excellent contribution to Suffolk Golf over the past 2 years. Phil is to remain on the County Executive as Championship Secretary.

Geoff Henney has also relinquished the Treasurers role after 12 years. The President made special mention of his contribution and support stating that he had managed the County's finances extremely well as a result of which Suffolk enjoyed one of the lowest affiliation fees in the Country. Bob Tawell proposed a vote of thanks. Peter Sledmere succeeds him.

 Mike Stevenson also stood down after 7 years as Chair of Suffolk Junior Golf to be replaced by Trevor Mason.The President stated that he had done a outstanding job and he leaves behind a motivated and committed team of managers and coaches who have the utmost respect and affection for him.

Will Wright, who has recently taken over the role of Junior Secretary joins the Executive with Brian Brandwood along with Phil Platten re-elected for further terms.

The Association of Suffolk Golf Club Captains handed over a cheque for £500 to assist Suffolk Junior Golf.
