A TOUGH DAY FOR SUFFOLK

On Sunday 12th May in beautiful British sunshine Suffolk’s first and second teams took on defending Anglian league champions, Lincolnshire.

The first team hosted their fixture at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. The morning foursomes didn’t quite go to plan with a strong Lincs side taking a commanding 3.5-0.5 lead at lunch. Cardy and Wright being the only home pair to manage half a point in the morning session. Knowing their work was cut out for the afternoon, the players worked hard and dug in well. Good wins for Felixstowe members Sayers and Harston provided a glimmer of hope but even with two more wins from Russell Oakey and debutant Sam Renville the slow morning was just too much to come back from. As always it was a game played in great spirits but the defending league champs from Lincolnshire had just bit too much for us and came winners, 7.5 - 4.5.

The second team had the trip up to Lincs to play at Sleaford Golf Club. The young pairing of Crisp and Rudd managed a good half point in the morning, as did Ipswich members Duszynski and Hedges. Sadly no more points came in for Suffolk that morning and at 3-1 down their battle was as ‘uphill’ as the one their team mates faced back home. Dom Rudd showed why he played some first team matches last year by going out in the afternoon taking a point with a 5/4 victory whilst Dan Hedges added to his tally with a 1 up win too. Taylor Crisp earned his second half point of the day but that was it for Suffolk. Lincolnshire took this one 8.5-3.5.
