On the 24th of July 2018 on a very hot day an 8 man Suffolk U16 squad played in the Skevington Salver at Royal Norwich Golf Club against Norfolk, Essex and Bedfordshire. In the extreme heat 26 holes of strokpelay proved to be a challenging format.
After the mornings play all but one of the Suffolk team were under handicap putting Suffolk in a strong position at the end of 8 holes. Suffolk battled hard in the afternoon on a very firm and bouncy course and kept their cool to win the Bob Bagshaw Trophy by 16 shots.
There were some great performances on the day with 6 out of the 8 boys finishing below handicap for the 26 holes. The stand out performance was from James Iron shooting an impressive 6 under handicap in the afternoon. Luke Green made a fantastic start to his U16 career carding 3 over gross in the afternoon on his U16 debut.
A special mention should go to super sub Tyler Weaver. Tyler (Suffolk U14 team member) was called into the squad with less than 24hours notice due to an unavoidable withdraw from one of our players. With no practice round Tyler, playing in the final group, shot a vital 1 under handicap in the afternoon to secure the win. A huge thanks goes to Tyler as without his score Suffolk would not have won the match.
The low score for the day went to Essex County Squad member Jake Wells who carded 1 over gross in the morning followed by 1 over gross in the afternoon.

Thanks to Colin for coming and supporting the boys during the day and a big thanks to Trevor for running around and helping me during the 2 days.
Due to the extreme heat an executive decision was taken to allow the boys to play in shorts. As this was only agreed last minute the boys did not have matching shorts with them.
